Since 1999, the Junior League of Columbus has worked to meet the needs of economically challenged children and families by providing a total of over 47,500 school supply filled backpacks through the Adopt-a-Backpack for Children (ABC) Project. Corporate and community partners are key to the success of this program, not only by providing financial support for the project, but also in joining the hundreds of hands required to stuff thousands of backpacks for deserving students in Central Ohio.
On August 15, 2017, the Central Community House hosted the Back to School Bash. With the Junior League of Columbus help, backpacks filled with supplies for over 160 local school children were provided. Parents who attended the Back to School Bash received valuable information from several community resources that will help them help their children succeed.
There are three main events hosted each year by the Junior League of Columbus sponsoring the ABC project:
- ABC’s Bestie’s Backpack Bash: A roaring fun evening with your “besties” and 10 rounds of bingo
- A Breakfast with Characters: A family event with breakfast where kids have the opportunity to meet and take pictures with their favorite
- Backpack Madness (formally Reds, Whites & ABC’s) – A casual evening of good food and drinks held in the spring during March Madness.
