The Junior League of Columbus is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization focusing on improving our community, promoting voluntarism and developing the potential of women.
From July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008, the Junior League of Columbus raised funds and provided trained volunteers to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of individuals in the Columbus community. The Junior League of Columbus and its volunteers: - Raised funds for and distributed 3,700 backpacks to deserving students in need;
- Donated almost 4,000 hours of community service to the community;
- Organized, funded, and staffed seven Quick Impact projects with local nonprofits in the community;
- Educated over 4,000 students in our Underground Railroad Learning Station programs at the Kelton House Museum;
- Continued to train our volunteer members on community issues, leadership and organization to develop the potential of women so that they can, in turn, share those skills with our community.
2007-2008 Junior League of Columbus Community Projects:
Adopt-A-Backpack For Children : The JLC annually provides deserving and needing students with brand new backpacks filled with required school supplies.
HOOPS! : A JLC collaboration with former WNBA player Valerie Still and the Valerie Still Foundation, this event combines leadership, teambuilding, and fun through a basketball clinic and related activities.
Kids in the Kitchen: To address the growing problem of childhood obesity, the Junior League of Columbus sponsors educational programming to teach healthy eating habits to children and their families.
Underground Railroad Learning Station : Children can re-live history as they tour the restored rooms of the Kelton House (a stop on the Underground Railroad), listen to Under the Quilt of Night (a fictional account of the Underground Railroad), work on an educational workbook, and view “Martha’s Journey,” a ‘living history’ presentation.
Please join the Junior League of Columbus’ efforts to build a better community by supporting our volunteer organization. Underwriting items on the JLC Wish List will help ensure that adequate resources are available to continue the League’s positive impact for individuals in our community. Thank you for your support and generosity!
