What is a Sustainer? Sustaining members of the Junior League of Columbus earn that status by completing a minimum of 8 years of service as an active member of the Junior League, in a variety of capacities within the Junior League organization. Sustainers continue to actively support the League by sharing their talents and experience, attending JLC sponsored events, advocating for community projects, serving in an advisory capacity to the organization, and generally acting as a patron of the Junior League of Columbus. Sustainer members also share financial resources through annual renewal of their membership, the endowment, in-kind donations, and other gifts and support. This group of women have come together to create special scholarship funds for students who have been involved with current or former JLC projects, and to recognize instructors who have made a difference in certain areas of a child's school experience. As trained volunteers, sustainers also share their JLC volunteer and leadership training with the community as a whole. They serve on a variety of Boards, many in leadership roles, and are active in many nonprofit organizations in the community. These women enjoy the connections with their fellow sustaining members through a variety of social and enrichment activities annually. They gather annually for several luncheons, and there are some special interest groups available including a cooking group and gardening group. In addition, a sustainer who has made a significant impact on the Columbus community is honored each year by the JLC. There are almost 400 sustainer members in the JLC.
